Ocean Isle beach 2014

I have not blogged in awhile. I woke up this morning and felt like blogging…:)

School is done for the year…yea!! It was time for my favorite thing to do… Our summer beach trip! As you know it takes a lot of preparing, packing, hauling and driving! So well worth it!

We got the car loaded, the boat hitched and we were well on our way!! Of course a 5 hour trip can get boring without embarrassing our kids a bit so my hubby and I decided to sing a little ” ditty” for them. We out sang “Jack and Diane” for sure!

Once we arrived, we unloaded and the fun began! We joined up with our good friends the Phillips which made the trip even more fun.

We all agreed boating out to the island was the most fun. There we played, ate and did some crabbing off the boat. We also caught a few Jelly fish. We found out these particular ones don’t sting…at least they didn’t sting Norma and I while they were on sand half dead…when we dared each other to touch them…

The fishing Boat got a little “beached”…Good thing we had strong guys and a few men on the island willing to help…

The Gulls are fearless…they look left then right and bam there goes your hot dog…at least this time this bird waited for one to roll off the grill…others swooped down and took one off the hot coals!

Evenings were always fun! Big dinners, golf cart rides, bike rides and lots of singing and dancing…Ava’s favorite part!

Of course the best part is making memories with friends and family, hoping that some day our kids will pass on the traditions…and maybe invite us??

Day 28…I am thankful for

IMG_9458

I have listed 27 people and things that I am thankful for but today I am thankful for circumstances…

Day 28. I am thankful for my ” imperfect childhood” my “imperfect past” and the difficult people in my life! Yes, sounds crazy but I warned you, I am crazy! All of theses things made me who I am today.. The imperfect, nutty, absent minded, stubborn, talkative, “in your business” girl who locks her keys in the car weekly! My imperfect past has taught me about strength , independence , empathy, sympathy, love and forgiveness. Most importantly, it has kept me strong in my faith!

“Comfort and prosperity have never enriched the world as much as adversity has.” ~ Billy Graham

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends and family!

I don’t know any perfect people

IMG_8544-2

Recently I had the pleasure of spending a weekend away with some ladies that I love… the kind of people that I feel safe sharing my past with and never feel judged! Yes those rare few that we find in life. One of our discussions was…” If we could change our past would we”? The majority of us of us said NO. We did all agree that we never wanted to be put “through the ringer” again like we all have at some point in our lives but our past, the good and the ugly made us who we are. I still do not understand how any person can go through a trial in life and not have compassion for another “in the same boat” so to speak. Maybe I will never understand that. I do know that most of the people that I am closest to, have been broken and are imperfect just like myself but they are perfect to me and God loves them all the same!

More than just a cup of joe

How wonderful to have friends that love at all times!

Studies show that women who spend quality time with friends are happier, healthier and live longer. No matter if you are married, single, divorced, work full time or you are a home maker. Spending time  ( real time not cyber time) with friends makes you a better wife, a better mother and makes your job less stressful. They say women speak about 13,000 more words a day than men! So I have to say, after spending time with a friend, my husband is happy that by the time he gets home from work… we are at an equal level with our chatter.. :)! The problem is with such crazy busy lives we have a hard time “making the time”.  No matter how busy you are, make some of your coffee breaks more than just a ” cup of Joe”… sip it with a friend!

I found this quote below somewhere and love the truth in it….I couldn’t say it better myself…

“Just spending a little time with someone shows that you care, shows that they are important enough that you’ve chosen — out of all the things to do on your busy schedule — to find the time for them. And if you go beyond that, and truly connect with them, through good conversation, that says even more. Many times its our actions, not just our words, that really speak what our hearts feel.”
